La Shawn K. Ford for Congress

Elected in 2007 to the Illinois House of Representatives, State Representative La Shawn K. Ford is running to succeed Congressman Danny K. Davis and represent the people of Illinois’ 7 Congressional District. La Shawn is proud to be endorsed by Congressman Danny Davis and is positioned to carry forward Congressman Davis’s legacy while charting a forward-looking agenda on equity, public safety, and economic empowerment.
WHERE I COME FROM
As a father, former public school teacher, real estate broker, and small business owner, La Shawn’s life story defines his philosophy as a
public servant. Rooted in Chicago and a lifelong resident of the city, La Shawn Ford was raised by a single mother and learned the value of hard work at a young age. La Shawn was the first member of his family to attend a four-year college and graduated from Loyola University Chicago, where he played basketball.
His mission to serve others as an elected official is grounded by a belief that tenacity and perseverance can conquer even the most difficult challenges.
In the state legislature, La Shawn has worked to pass more than 117 bills into law directly addressing the needs of his constituents. Before becoming a legislator, Rep. Ford taught social studies and coached basketball in the Chicago Public Schools and worked as a precinct captain in the Austin neighborhood where he grew up. A licensed real
estate broker, Rep. Ford founded Ford Desired Real Estate in 2001. He is also an Illinois licensed insurance agent and continues to be licensed as a teacher.
