“After nearly 30 years of representing Illinois’s 7th Congressional District, I have decided not to seek reelection—and with equal parts pride and confidence, I endorse State Representative La Shawn K. Ford as my successor. It is my honor, my pleasure, and my delight to endorse you,” Davis said, expressing his firm belief in Ford’s readiness to lead.
“I see in Representative Ford a young, seasoned public servant who can step in and continue the work—because you don’t have to be old, or have gray hair, to represent.” “At this moment, passing the torch to new leadership is not just the right thing—it’s necessary. Representative Ford has the energy, the experience, and the commitment to carry on our shared mission of justice, equity, and service,” Davis added.
Rep. Davis, I vote Chicago 17thWard 6thPrecinct. I am dedicated & loyal to your stated principle "I am commited to uplifting the lowly to equality in all things." While not rejecting Mr. Ford, I have not heard personally from my relative Speaker Welch either way. If Joann's health permits perhaps we can make an individual evaluation 10/4?

Congressman Davis you have been a Servant Leader for our community, state and nation for decades! You are culturally competent as you acknowledge and include all who fall under your responsibility. Representative Ford is the 21st Century. Thank you for being his platform as you have maintained a strong and steady platform for our community prior , during and after the Civil Rights Movement. You have been leadership for Change and the Next Congressman Ford will continue our traditions of excellence. From a Chicago Public School Teacher to one who set the tone for me! Thank You!
Sorry to hear that you’re not running for reelection. Please know that I am so proud of you for the work that you have done. I feel that you have selected a great candidate to replace you. I’m confident that he will continue your legacy of excellent service to the country and to our community. I will fully support Mr.. Ford’s campaign.
